Dr. Godbolt is married to the former Vertell Townsend since 1973. Dr. and Mrs. Godbolt are the parents of Jocelyn Godbolt McAllister (Terrence) and John Royvell Godbolt (Crystal). They have been blessed with six beautiful grandchildren, Terrence, Jaymond, and Jaelin McAllister; John R. Godbolt Jr., Christian Josiah and Iyanna Nicole Godbolt. Dr. John L. Godbolt is a native of Cumberland County, born in Hope Mills, North Carolina. Dr Godbolt graduated from Anne Chestnut High School in 1969 and earned a Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration from Fayetteville State University in 1974.
His quest for knowledge and learning continued with his pursuit of a Masters Degree in Elementary Education-Middle School from Fayetteville State University in 1988, followed by an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) in Education Administration from South Carolina State University in 1997. His ultimate academic goal was achieved by earning his PH.D at International Seminary in Theology/Christian Counseling in 2001.
Dr. Godbolt is presently the Dean of Christ Gospel Churches, International Bible Institute in Jeffersonville, Indiana. From 1978 to present, he has held the position of Pastor/Teacher of Christ Gospel Church in Fayetteville, NC and Elder (since 2001), District Two for North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland (2001) for the Christ Gospel Churches International, Inc. Jeffersonville, IN. As a dedicated advocate for formal education, Dr. Godbolt has in the past held the positions of principal, teacher, head of security, primary agent for Cumberland County S.A.F.E. Schools project, and facilitator of various literacy education advocacy programs.
Pastor Godbolt’s ministry has spread abroad on the international scene. His ministry work has included leadership training and speaking engagements in London, England; Kakinada and Hyderabad, India; Barbados, West Indies; St. Vincent, Grenadines; Johannesburg, White River East London, and Cape Town, South Africa; Jerusalem, Israel; Saskatoon, SK, Canada and Tampico and Mexico City, Mexico. He has also been very active in the community as a board member on Cumberland County Parent Advocacy, a Public Speaker for Teen Classes on Self-Esteem and Drug Awareness, Family and Marriage Seminar, ‘Save the Children’ Community Program, and a Facilitator for Character and Leadership in our schools and community.
Dr. Godbolt has always held the philosophy that no child is safe until every child is safe and no community is safe until every community is a safe place. He believes that the child that is overlooked today could be the child that may be the answer to world peace tomorrow. He is a firm believer that living is giving. He holds to the premise that the sign of a truly fulfilled life is not measured by the amount of personal gain, but by the amount of personal giving.
